First 30 Days With Your Kitten: Diet, Setup & Safe Acclimatization
A week-by-week guide to your new kitten's first month — home setup, feeding, litter, vet visits and helping your Bengal or British Shorthair settle in.
Before your kitten arrives
Set up a quiet room with a bed, litter tray, food and water bowls, a scratching post and a few toys. Remove cables, toxic plants and small objects.
Buy the same food your kitten eats at the cattery — we include a starter pack.
Week 1: settling in
Keep your kitten in one room for the first few days. Let it explore at its own pace and keep visitors to a minimum.
Feed three to four small meals a day at regular times.
Week 2: exploring the home
Open up more rooms gradually. Begin short, gentle play sessions and handle your kitten's paws and ears so future vet visits are easy.
Week 3: vet and routine
Register with a local vet and book a check-up. Bring the health record we provide so boosters stay on schedule.
Week 4: introductions
Introduce other pets slowly, using scent swapping and short supervised meetings. By the end of the month most kittens are confident and part of the family.
